Houston
Short graduated from Florida State University in 1984 with a bachelors
of science degree (cum laude) and received his juris doctor from the
University of Florida in 1987 (with honors). While at the University
of Florida, Houston was the recipient of the Bailey-Ferguson
Scholarship for first year law students. Houston co-authored, "The
Constitutionality of the Legislatures Mandate to Sever Counterclaims
in Mortgage Foreclosure Action," the Real Property, Probate and Trust
Law Section, The Florida Bar. Houston also lectures to National
Association of Certified Valuation Analysts respecting certified
valuation analyst designation for its members, the Orange County
Homeowners Association, and Fidelity National Title Company Seminars
respecting real property and title litigation.
Houston is an active member of the American Arbitration Association
Panel Review Committee, the Orange County Bar Association, and the
Florida Bar.
Houston, as well as the Litigation Department at Pohl & Short, P.A.,
is actively engaged in Federal and State Court and administrative
litigation at both the trial and appellate levels, representing
companies and individuals. Houston provides representation in
arbitration actions for the American Arbitration Association and
engages in alternative dispute resolutions including mediation both
binding and non-binding arbitration, and settlement negotiations. He
is aligned with multiple concerns in the construction industry and
represents a wide variety of small to mid-size businesses in the
Central Florida area.
Houston grew up in the Central Florida area, and continues to reside
in Orlando with his family. He enjoys watching his two sons
participate in area youth leagues. Houston also is an avid member of
the YMCA and actively participates in fitness programs.
