James C. Washburn

Jim Washburn practices construction law and commercial litigation, primarily handling complex construction matters, including contract drafting and negotiation, schedule-driven claims, bid protests, terminations, design and construction deficiencies, licensing issues, and lien and bond disputes. As a Board Certified Construction Law Attorney, he holds the Florida Bar’s highest level of recognition for an attorney’s competency in a particular area of law. Jim has represented public and private owners, design professionals, general contractors, sureties, and subcontractors. He has lectured and written articles on Florida’s Construction Lien Law, standard construction contract provisions, and updates in Florida law affecting the construction industry, and was a lecturer at The 7th Annual M/WBE Construction Management Course sponsored by Turner Construction Company and The M/WBE Alliance. Prior to attending law school, he worked for his family’s underground utility subcontracting company.

In addition to his construction-related practice, he has represented clients in real estate disputes, employment agreements, disputes involving the sale of goods, and other business litigation matters. Jim is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Jim is a member of the Florida, Orange County, and Seminole County Bar Associations. He serves on the Programs Committee and Working on Tomorrow Committee for the Mid Florida Utilities and Transportation Contractors Association, is a member of the Rotary Club of Altamonte Springs, Longwood Hills Congregational Church, and is a graduate of Leadership Seminole - Class of 2002.

Jim obtained both his B.A. degree in English and law degree from the University of Florida. He grew up in Central Florida, and attended Bishop Moore and Lake Mary High Schools. He and his wife Jennifer have a son and a daughter and live in Seminole County.
