James C. Washburn
Jim
Washburn practices construction law and commercial litigation,
primarily handling complex construction matters, including
contract drafting and negotiation, schedule-driven claims, bid
protests, terminations, design and construction deficiencies,
licensing issues, and lien and bond disputes. As a Board
Certified Construction Law Attorney, he holds the Florida Bar’s
highest level of recognition for an attorney’s competency in a
particular area of law. Jim has represented public and private
owners, design professionals, general contractors, sureties, and
subcontractors. He has lectured and written articles on
Florida’s Construction Lien Law, standard construction contract
provisions, and updates in Florida law affecting the
construction industry, and was a lecturer at The 7th Annual M/WBE
Construction Management Course sponsored by Turner Construction
Company and The M/WBE Alliance. Prior to attending law school,
he worked for his family’s underground utility subcontracting
company.
In addition to his construction-related practice, he has
represented clients in real estate disputes, employment
agreements, disputes involving the sale of goods, and other
business litigation matters. Jim is admitted to practice in the
State of Florida and the U.S. District Court for the Middle
District of Florida.
Jim is a member of the Florida, Orange County, and Seminole
County Bar Associations. He serves on the Programs Committee and
Working on Tomorrow Committee for the Mid Florida Utilities and
Transportation Contractors Association, is a member of the
Rotary Club of Altamonte Springs, Longwood Hills Congregational
Church, and is a graduate of Leadership Seminole - Class of
2002.
Jim obtained both his B.A. degree in English and law degree from
the University of Florida. He grew up in Central Florida, and
attended Bishop Moore and Lake Mary High Schools. He and his
wife Jennifer have a son and a daughter and live in Seminole
County.
